The Data Model editor
How the visual Data Model editor mirrors your Product Detail Page for intuitive schema management.

The Data Model section in Settings → Control Panel has three tabs: Fields, Categories, and Lists.
Fields tab — your product form, live
The Fields tab mirrors your actual Product Detail Page. The left sidebar shows placeholder Media Assets and E-Commerce Readiness panels (matching the PDP layout). The right side displays your field groups as collapsible sections, with each attribute rendered as the correct form field for its data type — text inputs, dropdowns, checkboxes, rich text areas.
A Repository dropdown (Products / Variants / Images) controls which attribute set you see. A Category Preview dropdown optionally shows category-specific attributes below the global fields, exactly where they appear on the actual PDP.
Click any field to open a metadata popover showing the attribute name, data type, and editable properties: display label, field group assignment, list linkage (for list-type fields), required-for-publish flag, and visible-by-default flag. You can create new field groups and new lists inline within this popover — no need to switch tabs.
Categories tab — many-to-many attribute management
The left panel shows your category hierarchy tree with add, rename, and delete controls. Selecting a category shows its category-specific attributes in the right panel, split by Product-Level and Variant-Level.
Each attribute displays an "Also in: X, Y" line showing all other categories that share the same attribute. Two buttons per level: Create New (full creation dialog with inline list creation) and Assign Existing (pick from category-specific attributes not yet in this category). Removing an attribute from a category unassigns it without deleting the definition.
Lists tab
Manage dropdown option lists and their values. Create new lists, add/edit/delete values, drag to reorder. The Value Requests sub-tab shows pending requests from users who need a new dropdown option.
